Maya Bay closes on 1 August

What it means for you

Book a Phi Phi trip in August or September and you will see the islands from the water, but you will not set foot on Maya Bay.

Maya Bay closes to visitors from 1 August to 30 September 2026 for its annual recovery period. It is scheduled to reopen on 1 October 2026.

This is routine, not an emergency. The bay is closed every year in the same window to let the beach and the reef recover from the season's traffic.

During the closure the whole of Phi Phi Leh is off limits to people going ashore. Boat trips to the Phi Phi islands still run — they simply do not land at Maya Bay.

If Maya Bay is the reason you booked a Phi Phi trip, either go before 1 August or move the trip past 1 October.

What to do about it

  • Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National ParkThe park authority that sets the closure.
  • Maya Bay visitor rulesCurrent access rules, boat landing points and fees.
